Excellent Work of Mass Comm Budding Filmmakers!

Budding filmmakers from the Faculty made us proud when the teams grab majority of the awards at the Sixth Malaysian Students Film and Video Festival (SMSFVF) on 12th January 2009 at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).


Teams from Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (UiTM) Melaka, sent two entries for the festival, both were Aidan Damia for short film/video categories and Nabi Palsu for documentary category.


The excellent work of Aidan Damia bagged four awards for four categories which are Best Director (Rudi Agassi), Best Actor (Shah Hassanul Manzar), Best Actress (Aziny Amir) and Best Sound Editing (Rudi Agassi).


The other work was from the efforts of Mohd Firdaus Isa, Anuar Ali, Raiha Fatimah Hanaffi, Tun Mastura Wan Lokman, Sharifah Nur Nalia Syed Omar, Abdul Mutalib Saifuddin who produced Nabi Palsu that won Special Jury Award and Best Research Documentary Award. .
Earlier the teams were named as the top five teams in both the documentary and short film/Video categories for the Super Pitch qualifying round.


The team were among 25 and 15 entries shortlisted for both category respectively from over 100 entries for film/short video and 69 for documentary categories. They were awarded RM2,500 to produce their short film and RM2,000 to produce their documentary.


At the Super Pitch qualifying round, the team have to pitch their proposals in front of a panel of judges consisting of professionals from the broadcasting and production industry.


Opened to students of higher learning institutes, the festival is a project aims to produces more professionals in the field, hence to help develop the Malaysian film industry. The event was organised by Universiti Putra Malaysia in collaboration with National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).
